Lesson 4: Cutting Onion Strips for Sautéing

Step 1
Follow Steps 1, 2, and 3 in Dicing an Onion. Slice off the top and bottom ends of the onion.

Step 2
Lay the two onion halves flat on the cutting board. |
Step 3
Make parallel cuts across the onion, thinner for thin slices, fatter for thick slices. |
![]() Continue cutting all the way across the onion, gripping onion firmly while keeping your fingertips curved away from the knife. |
![]() Separate the onion layers into individual strips. The onion strips are now ready to be sauteed. |
